South Dakota also in emergency – National Guard to aid.
Since the start of 2021, the North Dakota Forest Service has already reported more than 30,000 acres of land burned by 140 separate wildfires, more than triple the acreage of 2020. Severe drought has prompted the Dakotas to declare a state of emergency, allowing the National Guard to help fight fires with ground men and two Black Hawk helicopters.
“North Dakota must be prepared to respond to wildland fires during periods of ongoing dry conditions and drought patterns,” stated Governor Doug Burgum. “At this time, North Dakota has an elevated spring and summer fire potential; a significant number of fires have occurred to date.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the U.S. Forest Service as they assist North and South Dakota’s efforts to contain the fires.
- For the protection of the National Guard as they lend aid to the states.
- For a change in the weather conditions that have created the drought.
- That the Lord would protect the residents and their homes.
